Hampshire is unusual among the counties we have researched: the county search carries no map results at all, and the price transparency in the top three is nil. No map results at all
There was no local pack on the county term. Nothing was being handed out on the basis of a Hampshire address, which is unusual and which means this is an ordinary organic contest decided by the pages themselves. A company panel to the side
Google showed a knowledge panel for a business called SEO-Hampshire Web Design, with a reviews carousel attached. That happens when a company name matches a search phrase closely enough to be read as the subject of it. It is not a slot anyone buys, and we are not going to pretend we could take it.
Town pages winning county terms
One top-ten result was a Southampton page. Another was a published list of the best agencies in Basingstoke. When town-level content answers a county query, that is a fair signal about where the real demand sits — and a good argument for starting with your own town.

For comparison: we fetched the three pages ranking at the top for SEO in Hampshire on 29 August 2026 and none of them published a price.
