Our view: professional services and construction are the two largest groups and together make up nearly a third of registered enterprises, so a Sussex surveyor, consultant or builder is rarely the only one a customer can find. Those are the searches we would look at first, with a page for each service and each town you work in rather than one homepage for the whole county.
What a Search for "SEO Sussex" Showed on 4 October 2026
One desktop look at Google UK, written down as it was.
Google showed an AI Overview, no local map pack and no paid ads above the results. It gave a result count of 96,900 and returned nine organic results.
Reading the URLs, we took six as agency service or location pages, one as a directory list (Sortlist) and two as other agency pages, a contact page and a blog post. Three of the nine were written for a single Sussex town: Worthing, Horsham and Crowborough. The first result was an agency page at rehive.co.uk. Brambla was not in the top nine, and this is one capture rather than a ranking check, so results will differ by location and by day.

Our studio is in Northlew in west Devon, which is most of the south coast away from Chichester and further still from Rye. We have no Sussex address, no Sussex phone number and no intention of renting either to look local. Sussex work runs remotely, and we would rather win it on published prices, a written monthly report and being able to change the website ourselves than on a postcode we do not have.

There were no map results when we looked on 4 October 2026, and none when we captured the same search on 29 August. An AI Overview sat above the ordinary results both times, so on this search no postcode-gated slots were being handed out. In August two of the results were near-identical domains, which is worth knowing if you think you are comparing two different agencies. Your own location still decides your town-level map results.
