The Quay, the Long Bridge and the Pannier Market
Bideford is a port town that still trades like one. The quay, the Long Bridge across the Torridge, the Pannier Market and the shops climbing the hill behind them make up a compact town centre where independents outnumber chains by a comfortable margin.
The businesses here divide fairly cleanly. There are the ones selling to people already in town — shops, cafés, salons, services — where being found on a phone within walking distance is the whole game. And there are the ones selling outward: builders, marine trades, contractors and suppliers quoting for work across Torridge and beyond, where the website is the credibility check before anyone rings.
