How Long Does It Take to Build a Website?
From a preview in two to three working days to four to eight weeks for a custom build: honest timings for each route, what slows a project down and how to keep yours on track.
How long does it take to build a website?
It depends on the route you choose and how ready your content is. At Brambla, a 7 Day Website takes seven working days once your content is ready. A pay-monthly LIVE site sends you a preview within two to three working days (it can be within 24 hours). A Custom Website takes four to eight weeks from discovery to launch, and longer for big builds. Building it yourself takes as long as your own evenings allow. Whichever route you take, Google then needs from a few days to a few weeks to find the new pages.
The honest answer is that the build is rarely the slow part. Waiting for content, feedback and decisions is. This guide gives the real timings for each route, and what you can do to keep yours on track.
Key takeaways
- On a LIVE plan, we send a preview within two to three working days (it can be within 24 hours).
- A 7 Day Website takes seven working days.
- A Custom Website takes four to eight weeks.
- The clock starts when your content is ready. For a 7 Day Website, that means your words, logo, images and domain access before Day 1.
- Online shops go through our Custom Website service. They typically take around four to eight weeks, with big catalogues at the longer end. We agree the timeline before we start.
- Most delays come from the client side: missing content, slow feedback and changing the plan halfway through.
- "Live" isn't the same as "on Google". Google says crawling can take a few days to a few weeks.
How long does each route take?
From about a week for a small, well-prepared site to two months or more for a large custom build.
| Route | Typical time | What sets the pace |
|---|---|---|
| Build it yourself on a website builder | As long as your own time allows | Your hours, your content and how much you learn as you go |
| Brambla LIVE pay-monthly plan | A preview link within 2 to 3 working days (it can be within 24 hours) | Your details and photos; it goes live once you approve it and your domain is pointed |
| Brambla 7 Day Website | 7 working days | Everything ready before Day 1: text, logo, images, domain access |
| Brambla Custom Website | 4 to 8 weeks, discovery to launch | Size, integrations, how fast feedback comes back |
| Online shop, through our Custom Website service | Around 4 to 8 weeks, longer for big catalogues | Number of products, categories and integrations |
Every Brambla price and timing above is published on our own pages. The difference between the routes isn't really how fast anyone can type code. It's how much has to be decided, written and checked.
Can a website really be built in a week?
Yes, if the site is a sensible size and everything it needs is ready on Day 1.
Our 7 Day Website follows a fixed plan:
- Day 1: strategy and kick-off. Goals, structure, content review and design direction agreed.
- Day 2: homepage design.
- Day 3: the rest of the pages designed.
- Day 4: development.
- Day 5: content placed and search engine optimisation (SEO) set up.
- Day 6: testing for speed, mobile, accessibility and different browsers.
- Day 7: launch, with your domain connected and hosting live.
It works because the scope is fixed at up to seven pages, and because nothing is waiting on anyone. Before Day 1 we ask for your logo and brand assets, colour preferences, all page text, the images you want, access to your domain and your chosen WebsiteCare plan. The Simple tier is £1,200 for 4 to 5 pages, Standard is £1,500 for 6 to 7 pages, and Complex is £1,800 for 7 pages with more advanced layouts. If your words aren't ready, copywriting is available as an add-on at £150 a page.
A week is too short when you need people to edit the site themselves, complex integrations or a lot of pages. That's what our Custom Website is for.
How long does a custom website take?
Usually four to eight weeks with us, counted from the first discovery session to launch day. A big site with complex integrations can take longer than eight weeks.
A custom build goes through six stages: discovery and strategy, design, development, content and SEO, testing, and launch. Discovery is where the time is saved or lost, because that's when the pages, content, integrations and technical needs are decided, before any design starts. You get the timeline in writing before work starts, and you see designs and working pages as the build goes, not all at once at the end.
Online shops are built through the same Custom Website service. They typically take around four to eight weeks, with large catalogues, complex categories or extra integrations at the longer end. Custom websites start from £2,500, and online shops, Shopify included, from £3,500.
How long does a one-page or pay-monthly website take?
On our LIVE plans, a preview link lands in your inbox within two to three working days (it can be within 24 hours).
LIVE is our pay-monthly route. The build is free, the first month is free, and then it's £30, £50, £70 or £90 a month for us to run the site, with no contract. One of us replies within one business day of your enquiry, and the preview follows. Once you approve it, we point your domain and the site goes live. It's a managed service, so if you cancel, the site comes down. See our Pay Monthly Website page for how the plans differ.
What slows a website project down?
Missing content, slow or changing feedback, and late decisions. The build itself is rarely the hold-up.
The same few things cause most of the delays we see:
- Content that isn't ready. Pages are built around real words and photos, so the build waits until they arrive. For a 7 Day Website, the week only starts once they're in.
- Domain access. If nobody knows who holds the login for your domain, the launch waits until someone finds it.
- Slow replies. A question that sits unanswered for a few days adds those days to the end, and feedback that reopens something already agreed adds more.
- Too many people signing off. If several people must approve each stage and they disagree, every round takes longer. Name one person with the final say.
- New features halfway through. On a Custom Website, a change of scope is quoted separately before any work happens, which keeps the price fixed but can move the date.
A clear brief helps more than anything else. Our guide How to Write a Web Design Brief (+ Free Template) walks through what to include.
How can I get my website built faster?
Get your content together first, choose one person to sign things off, and answer questions on the same day.
A short list that saves the most time:
- Write your page text before you book, even roughly.
- Gather your logo, photos and any reviews you'd like to use in one folder.
- Find your domain login, or ask whoever registered it.
- Decide who approves the design and the final site.
- Keep the first version simple. You can add pages later.
On a 7 Day Website, extra pages beyond the seven included are £150 to £250 each, so starting small doesn't stop you growing.
Once it's live, how long until it shows on Google?
Usually anything from a few days to a few weeks for Google to find and index the pages. Ranking well takes longer.
Google says crawling can take a few days to a few weeks, and that some changes take effect within hours while others take several months. You can help by setting up Google Search Console, submitting your sitemap and requesting indexing for your main pages. Our guide How to Get Your Website on Google (and Check It's There) covers each step. Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to build a 5-page website?
At Brambla, a 4 to 5 page site on our 7 Day Website takes seven working days on the Simple tier, at £1,200. The clock starts once your text, logo, images and domain access are ready before Day 1. A custom 5 to 8 page site with a content management system usually takes four to eight weeks.
Can a website be built in a day?
A website builder or an AI tool can produce a page in a day, and some in minutes. A business site that's designed around your customers, written properly, tested on phones and set up for search takes longer. Our fastest route is a preview within two to three working days (it can be within 24 hours) on a LIVE plan.
Why do website projects take longer than quoted?
Usually because content arrives late, feedback takes longer than planned or the scope changes partway through. At Brambla, a change of scope on a Custom Website is quoted separately before any work starts, so you can decide whether the extra time and cost are worth it.
How long does it take to redesign a website?
At Brambla, a multi-page redesign on our 7 Day Website is delivered in seven working days, with your content moved across and every old address redirected to its new page. Bigger redesigns go through our Custom Website service, usually four to eight weeks. Expect your rankings to move for a few weeks while Google recrawls the new pages.
How long does Google take to index a new website?
Google says it can take a few weeks to notice a new site, and that crawling can take a few days to a few weeks. Submitting a sitemap in Google Search Console and requesting indexing for your key pages helps Google find them, but it doesn't guarantee when they'll appear.
The bottom line
If you need a professional site quickly, a well-prepared 7 Day Website is live in seven working days. A LIVE plan gets you a preview within two to three working days (it can be within 24 hours). If you need more, plan on four to eight weeks for a custom build. Either way, have your content ready and the build is the easy part. When you're ready, Start a Project: we reply within one business day, and send a plan and quote within 48 hours of getting your brief.
