Umbraco Support & Upgrades

Help for websites already built on Umbraco: fixes, version upgrades, development work and a clear review of the hosting and security. Every job is reviewed first, then quoted.

What Do We Do for Umbraco Sites?

If you need an Umbraco agency or developer to look after a site you already have, this is the work we take on.

Brambla supports existing Umbraco websites. We fix problems, upgrade sites to a supported version of Umbraco, carry out development work on the site you already have, and review its hosting and security. We do not build new websites on Umbraco: new Brambla sites are custom-built in Next.js, or on Shopify for online shops. We currently look after an Umbraco site in production. Like all our work, Umbraco jobs are done by people using AI tools, and every change is reviewed by a person before it goes live. We reply within one business day, and you get a plan and quote within 48 hours of getting the brief.

Support and fixes

Errors, forms that stopped sending, pages that will not publish, or something that broke after an update. We find the cause first, then fix it.

Version upgrades

Moving an older site onto a supported version, for example from Umbraco 8 or 13 to Umbraco 17, the current long-term support release. We check your packages and custom code before we quote.

Development on your existing site

New page types, new sections, changes to templates and connections to other systems, built into the Umbraco set-up you already have.

Hosting and security review

We look at where the site is hosted, how it is deployed, its backups and its security settings, then tell you plainly what we would change.

Which Umbraco Versions Are Still Supported?

Umbraco's own dates, read on 18 October 2026. LTS means long-term support; STS means standard-term support.

Umbraco 13 has been in its security phase since 14 December 2025: only security issues are fixed until it reaches end of life on 14 December 2026. After end of life, Umbraco says a version is no longer recommended.

For most sites the target is Umbraco 17, which Umbraco lists as its most recent LTS release, running on .NET 10. Umbraco 18 cannot upgrade straight from Umbraco 13: Umbraco's documentation says to move to Umbraco 17 first.

What Does an Umbraco Upgrade Involve?

Umbraco's documentation names four things to check on every upgrade. We check all four before we quote.

Your database and content

Umbraco updates the database itself when the new version first starts. On a large site this can take a while, so we plan for it.

Property editors

Some editors are removed in major versions. Nested Content, Grid Layout and macros were all removed in Umbraco 14, so pages built with them need rebuilding with blocks.

Your own code

C# code, Razor templates and backoffice extensions all need checking. Backoffice code written in AngularJS has to be updated, because Umbraco 14 removed AngularJS.

Packages

Each package needs a version that works with the new Umbraco, or a replacement. We check this before we quote, not halfway through the job.

Coming from Umbraco 8 or earlier

Umbraco's documentation says there is no direct upgrade path from Umbraco 8 to Umbraco 9, because Umbraco 9 moved from ASP.NET to ASP.NET Core and the codebase was fundamentally updated. Your content can be reused in the new version, but the templates, custom code and packages are rebuilt for it. That makes it a bigger job than a normal upgrade, and we scope it that way.

Before any upgrade we take a backup of the site's files and its database, as Umbraco's documentation advises, so there is always a version we know works. Our Umbraco Upgrade Guide v8 to v17 goes through the steps in more detail.

Upgrade, or Move Off Umbraco?

Umbraco is a good fit for sites with a lot of structured content, several editors or a team that already works in .NET. If that is your site, an upgrade keeps what already works and puts it back on a supported version.

If your site is simpler, the cost of keeping Umbraco upgraded and patched may not be worth it. In that case we can move your content to a new site, custom-built in Next.js, through our Website Redesign Services. A larger or more complex site would be a Custom Website.

We will tell you which we think fits your site, and why.

How Umbraco work is priced

There are no fixed prices for Umbraco work. Sites differ a lot in version, hosting, packages and custom code, so we review your site and its hosting first, then quote.

Our WebsiteCare plans are priced for the sites we build. Umbraco (.NET) sites are not standard WebsiteCare, so ongoing care for an Umbraco site is quoted after the same review.

What helps us quote

  • The site address
  • The Umbraco version, if you know it
  • Where the site is hosted and who deploys it now
  • What you need done, and by when

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you build new websites on Umbraco?

No. New Brambla websites are custom-built in Next.js, or on Shopify for online shops. We support, fix and upgrade Umbraco sites that already exist, and we can rebuild an Umbraco site in Next.js if you would rather move off Umbraco.

Which version of Umbraco should I upgrade to?

For most sites, Umbraco 17. Umbraco lists it as the current long-term support (LTS) release, with end of life on 27 November 2028. Umbraco 18 is newer, but it is a standard-term release that reaches end of life on 25 June 2027. Umbraco's own documentation says a site on Umbraco 13 has to move to Umbraco 17 before it can go to Umbraco 18.

When does Umbraco 13 reach end of life?

On 14 December 2026, according to Umbraco. It has been in its security phase since 14 December 2025, which means only security issues are fixed. Umbraco says a version is no longer recommended once it reaches end of life. Umbraco also offers Extended Long-term Support (XLTS) for LTS versions past that date.

Can an Umbraco 8 site be upgraded to Umbraco 17?

Not directly. Umbraco's documentation says there is no direct upgrade path from Umbraco 8 to Umbraco 9, because Umbraco 9 moved from ASP.NET to ASP.NET Core. Your content can be reused in the new version, but the site's code, templates and packages have to be rebuilt for it. Umbraco 8 reached end of life on 24 February 2025.

How much does Umbraco support cost?

We do not publish a price for Umbraco work. Umbraco sites differ a lot in version, hosting, packages and custom code, so we review your site and its hosting first and then quote. You get a plan and quote within 48 hours of getting the brief.

Is Umbraco support part of WebsiteCare?

Not as standard. WebsiteCare is priced for the sites we build ourselves. Umbraco (.NET) sites are much more expensive to host and manage, so we review the site and its hosting first and give you a quote for looking after it.

Can you take over an Umbraco site another agency built?

Yes. We start by reviewing the code, the packages, the hosting and how the site is deployed, so we know what we are taking on before we quote. It helps if you can give us access to the source code and the hosting account.

How quickly will you reply?

Within one business day. A plan and quote follow within 48 hours of getting the brief: the site address, the Umbraco version if you know it, where it is hosted and what you need done.
